Chess Live Latest Games ("the app") is designed to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with information.

We do not collect your data

The app has no user accounts and requires no sign-in. We do not collect, store, sell, or share personal information. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking software.

Camera and face data (optional “Play only while watching”)

The app includes one optional, off-by-default feature called “Play only while watching.” If you turn it on, the app uses the front-facing TrueDepth camera through Apple’s ARKit face tracking to determine one thing: whether you are currently looking at the screen, so that automatic move playback pauses when you look away and resumes when you look back.

What is collected

While the feature is running, ARKit provides the app with live face-tracking data from the TrueDepth camera — face and eye orientation and depth information describing the position of your face relative to the device. The app reads only the direction your eyes and head are pointing, and converts it immediately into a single yes/no value: looking at the screen, or not.

How it is used

That yes/no value is used for exactly one purpose: pausing and resuming move playback. It is used for nothing else.

It stays on your device

All of this processing happens entirely on your device, in real time, in memory. No image, photograph, video, depth map, face map, face model, or other facial data is ever recorded, saved to disk, added to a profile, or transmitted off your device. The face-tracking data exists only for the instant it is evaluated and is then discarded; nothing is retained after the moment it is used, and nothing persists once the feature or the app is closed. The app shows no camera preview.

It is never shared, sold, or used for advertising

Face data and TrueDepth camera data are never transmitted to us or to any server, never shared with, sold to, or disclosed to any third party, and never provided to advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics providers. This data is not used for advertising or marketing purposes of any kind, is not used to identify you or any anonymous user, is not used to build any profile, and is not used for any purpose other than pausing playback as described above. It is not used for authentication, age verification, health, or any third-party purpose.

Your control

The feature is off by default and never runs unless you explicitly turn it on. iOS asks for your camera permission before it can start. You can turn the feature off at any time inside the app, or revoke camera access at any time in the iOS Settings app; the rest of the app works normally without it.

Network requests

To show live games and player information, the app fetches publicly available chess data from third-party services such as Lichess and Chess.com, and player photos from Wikipedia. These requests are made over secure connections and do not include personal information about you. When you open a commentary stream or a source link, your device opens that link in your browser or the relevant app, and that destination’s own privacy policy then applies.

Optional AI commentary (your own API key)

The app lets you optionally generate game commentary using your own Claude (Anthropic) or ChatGPT (OpenAI) API key. If you choose to use this feature, your API key is stored only in your device’s local settings and is sent only to the provider you selected, only when you request commentary. We never receive, store, or transmit your key. Your use of those providers is governed by their respective terms and privacy policies.

Content you save

Bookmarks, notes, imported PGNs, and your appearance preferences are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to us.

Children’s privacy

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised.
