How do I follow a live tournament?
Open the Live tab. Tap a tournament to see its rounds, then tap a round to browse the games. Open any game to replay it move by move. Live games update as the tournament is relayed.
How does “Play only while watching” work? Is it private?
It is fully optional and off by default. When you turn it on during a game, the front camera uses on-device face tracking to detect whether you are looking at the screen, so auto-play pauses when you look away and resumes when you look back. No image or video is ever recorded, stored, or transmitted — the processing happens entirely on your device. You can adjust how sensitive it is in Sources → Eye Tracking, or in the game controls, and you can revoke camera access anytime in iOS Settings.
Can I add my own games?
Yes. Go to the Library tab, tap +, and either paste PGN text, fetch a .pgn URL, or choose a .pgn file. A single file can hold many games; each is saved separately and becomes searchable.
How do I download or share a game?
Open any game and tap the share button. The app exports a standard .pgn file you can save to Files, AirDrop, or share anywhere.
How do I change the board colors or pieces?
Go to Sources → Board & Pieces. Choose from 15 board color schemes and several piece sets, with a live preview. Your choice applies everywhere in the app.
What is the optional AI commentary, and do I need a key?
You can generate move-by-move commentary on any game using your own Claude (Anthropic) or ChatGPT (OpenAI) API key. Add your key under Sources → AI Commentary. The key is stored only on your device and is used only for your own requests. The feature is entirely optional — the app works fully without it.
Where do the games come from?
Live and recent games come from public sources including Lichess broadcasts and Chess.com. Classic “Legends” games are a curated, move-verified library that cites its sources. The app is not affiliated with Lichess, Chess.com, FIDE, or any tournament organizer.
