Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Koiné ("the app", "we", "our") handles your information. The short version: we do not collect any data from you. There is no account, no login, and no analytics.

1. Data we collect

None. Koiné does not collect, transmit, or store personal information on our servers. Your reading history, bookmarks, flashcard progress, and any passages you add stay on your device.

2. The "Add from a photo" feature

Koiné offers two optional ways to turn a photo of Greek text into a reading:

On-device OCR (default). Printed Greek is recognised entirely on your device. The photo never leaves your phone, and no internet connection is used.
Claude reader (optional). If you choose this engine and enter your own Anthropic API key, the single photo you select is sent directly from your device to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com) to be transcribed and parsed. This happens only when you initiate it. The image is sent under your own Anthropic account; we never receive your photos or your API key. Your API key is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device. Anthropic's handling of that request is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy.

3. Analytics & advertising

Koiné contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. If iOS sends Apple anonymous crash diagnostics, we may see aggregated reports from Apple; you can turn this off in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements.

4. Purchases

Koiné is a one-time paid app. Your purchase is processed by Apple; we never see your payment information.

5. Children

Koiné is suitable for all ages and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

6. Security

All optional network requests use HTTPS, and your Anthropic API key (if you provide one) is stored in the iOS Keychain.

7. Changes

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will reflect it.
